Mission Statement:
“The Dick Smith Foundation of Straight-Ahead Jazz” [DSFSAJ] is a non-profit organization that promotes the preservation of Straight-Ahead Jazz. That goal is achieved by/and for the many jazz musicians, enthusaists, volunteers, and patrons, participating weekly, annually, and perpetually since 1999, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, at 400 I St, SW, Washington, DC 20024, all of whom apply their talents and interests as a jazz community for that purpose. There is a set of tasks that work together to achieve that goal, including: planning, promoting, hosting, presentation, curating, education, advertising, documentating. All these tasks together are preserving this great American invention of jazz, which ultimately evolved into Straight-Ahead Jazz.
